Local Author Spotlight
Bob Hodge
Please describe your writing routine. Is there a time of day or place that is most productive for you?
Early morning, I will read what I wrote on the previous day and take things from there.
Is there anything in Lowell or in the surrounding area that has inspired your work? Such a place to take nice walks or a piece of artwork?
I grew up mainly in the Acre section of Lowell in the 1960-70’s and went to Lowell High School and later Lowell Tech/University of Lowell. I was on the Cross Country and Track teams so the entire environment of Lowell and the Merrimack Valley in general are a big part of the person I have become.
What do you believe are the most important elements of writing? How do you incorporate it into your own work?
For me the most important thing is reading. All of my writing is influenced by what I have read and continue to read.
What advice would you give to a young writer and/or a writer starting their first creative work? Keep writing even when there seems to be nothing there nothing in the tank just sit at the keyboard or pick up your pencil.
What were your favorite books when you were a child?
Mainly Horatio Alger type of stories about athletes and adventurers.
Do you have any reading recommendations?
Read widely, follow your interest.
