Happy National Library Week!

National Library Week is an annual celebration created by the American Library Association, which highlights the valuable roles that libraries, librarians, and other library works play in strengthening the communities in which they exist. This year’s theme is Find Your Joy, which is an opportunity for all library users to explore their libraries, but also share the ways that libraries help add joy to their lives.
We invite you to come into the library and interact with staff, programs, and materials to see what sparks a new interest, helps you find the answer to a question that you are wondering about, or even try something new.
Library users should support libraries by engaging in various activities throughout the week, including
Monday, April 20: Right to Read Day, a day for readers, advocates, and library lovers to take action to protect, defend, and celebrate the right to read. The American Library Association (ALA) kicks off National Library Week with the release of its State of America’s Libraries Report, including the list of Top Ten Most Challenged Books of 2025.
Tuesday, April 21: National Library Workers Day, a day for library staff, users, administrators, and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers. Feel free to share your thoughts about your favorite staff member by giving them a shout out at https://lowelllibrary.org/about-us/staff/staff-shout-outs/. Library Director Bridget Cooley will also be presenting an update on the achievements of the Library in 2025 and the plans for the future to City Council in the evening. You can watch via LTC.org or their YouTube page.
Wednesday, April 22: National Library Outreach Day (formerly National Bookmobile Day), a day to celebrate library outreach and the dedicated library professionals who are meeting their patrons where they are. Our amazing staff
Thursday, April 23:Â Take Action for Libraries Day, a day to rally advocates to support libraries.
