Please describe your writing routine. Is there a time of day or place that is most productive for you?
Mostly on the weekends, later in the morning or early afternoon.
Is there anything in Lowell or in the surrounding area that has inspired your work? Such a place to take nice walks or a piece of artwork?
I gather much inspiration from Mill No. 5 and the Canal Walk. In the spring and summer, I will find places to write as the river flows by. I find solace in the industrial remnants of the area.
What do you believe are the most important elements of writing? How do you incorporate it into your own work?
As a writer who started in the horror genre, character building, ambience and atmosphere are important. I prefer my characters be deeper than people whose sole purpose it is to fall victim to the antagonist. It is also important for me to explore situations and tales outside of my comfort zone.
What advice would you give to a young writer and/or a writer starting their first creative work?
Just write. Just let it flow. Don’t delete anything until you are certain it will not be included in your manuscript.
What were your favorite books when you were a child?
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and Charlotte’s Web. My favorite high school read was Animal Farm.
Do you have any reading recommendations?
This Christmas, I read Krampus the Yule Lord by Bromm. I greatly enjoyed My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix.
