Local Author Spotlight
A.G. Reidy

Please describe your writing routine. Is there a time of day or place that is most productive for you?
Personally I do a lot of my writing in the evening or on vacations during down time.

Is there anything in Lowell or in the surrounding area that has inspired your work? Such a place to take nice walks or a piece of artwork?
While writing my books, which both take place during the 70s in Lowell. I’d take rides in the area where I grew up and also in the city, around the high school, the library, etc. places that would help me with the memories.

What do you believe are the most important elements of writing? How do you incorporate it into your own work?
The way I write is to start with a bone – in my case, of truth – while for others it would just be an idea for each chapter (the bone) then I go back and wrap the bone in a muscle of details.

What advice would you give to a young writer and/or a writer starting their first creative work?  Just start! Just do it. Don’t put it off. Start writing and then you can go back and tweak it. So many people overthink it in my opinion and it holds them back.

What were your favorite books when you were a child?
To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite book. I also love Catcher in the Rye – all the Harry Potters and when I was younger I was a fan of fairy tales and Nancy Drew. I was all over the place!

Do you have any reading recommendations?
For an escape the Harry Potter books are great. Also, I love anything funny and I love biographies- so I’d recommend those. You can always read my Dinkweed books if you are looking for a local laugh ❤️
