THANK YOU to all who contributed to the 1st Annual On the Road Marathon Reading on Saturday, March 10, 2018 to celebrate Jack Kerouac’s 96th birthday. Participants took turns reading Kerouac’s most iconic novel. The reading began in our Kerouac Corner on the first floor of the library—the exact spot Kerouac began his adventurous education. Dana Colley (Morphine/Vapors of Morphine) kicked off the reading with a saxophone invocation, followed by a host of celebrity readers. Next, the marathon headed out on the road to Gallery Z (167 Market St) for readings from 4:00PM – 7:50PM. Readings continued at UnchARTed beginning at 8:00PM. The reading ended at 11:30 PM with Jerry Bisantz of Image Theatre performing the final part of the book. Limited edition pins, t-shirts, & tote bags are still available for donation supporters. It was truly an amazing event and we were able to relive Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty’s epic journey to the heart of postwar America. This event was free and open to the public. SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!!!
