Tonight at 6:30pm - Lowell Historical Society Annual Meeting - feat. a presentation on the 1903 US Cartridge Company Magazine Explosition
The Lowell Historical Society will be hosting their annual meeting tonight in the library’s ground floor meeting room. The meeting will feature a lecture by Kim Zunnio on the 1903 US Cartridge Company Magazine Explosion.
On July 29, 1903, the Town of Tewksbury was rocked by a major explosion in a section of the town along the Concord River called Wigginville. That morning, two cartridge magazines owned by the U.S. Cartridge Company exploded, killing 22 people, injuring 70 more, and destroying the nearby neighborhood of Riverside Place. News of the event spread across the country and many flocked to the site to see the devastation.
Join them tonight for an in-depth look at the events leading up to the explosion and learn about consequences of the industrial disaster in the history of the Greater Lowell Area.
